The White Witch, pt.2; Doomed

Centuries had gone by and Davina still refused to give up on humanity and the blood-thirsty, horrible crimes they were willing to undertake just to get rid of her.
After the fire incident in the village all those years ago, she did not give up and always tried her best and became a member of new tribes. Unfortunately, it always ended badly; with her trying hard to incorporate herself into the society, helping others, healing soldiers and cooking remedies, and with the villagers becoming gradually more scared until they tried to isolate her from everyone.

The truth is, she never wanted to hurt anyone. The fire was started by her rage and her fear, she never wanted for all those people to burn to ashes with all their possessions. In the last village, when her ageless nature started to show, people, once again, started to get agitated. Despite all the help she offered to the villagers, they never took her as one of their own. Why did all the women in the village lose the redness of their hair? Why was it replaced by grey receding locks all of a sudden? Why did all the strong brave men become old and powerless all of a sudden? And most of all, why was Davina Fair still so youthful and beautiful? There must be some kind of magic and if she won´t tell, she must be dealt with.

Although she has been a successful escapee, escaping her fate for all those years, she knew only too well that everything must come to an end eventually; even all the luck she had with running away from the scared vengeful villagers.
Years have passed by, settlements turned into towns, fireplaces were changed for chimneys decorating numerous thatched roofs. The few thin long Viking paddle-ships that were so often visible from the nearby hill were, with passing years, replaced by enormous harbors with so many ships which, to a first glance, looked like a new village forming on the sea surface. Fishing became the main source of living in the surrounding area and there was lesser and lesser number of hunters in town .

Fifteen century has seen the growth of male healers that were interested in mixing and matching different chemicals to create remedies which, to be perfectly fair, often caused even worse health problems. Even in a society with science in rise, knowledge about, and the use of healing herbs was something still associated with witches. Davina, once again, found herself in a world that did not understand her. Her love and her mastery of natural remedies did not seem a welcome addition for all those men who though about the power of nature as useless. Besides, the fact that a woman, without any special status, would be considered a valuable addition to the scientist society, was something unheard of. The town people, however, saw her as a complete opposite; a rumour was spread that one Davina Fair is a witch and should be brought to court.

The worst part was, she was tired of trying to run. The major sent a search party looking for her and because she did not even try, it wasn´t such a difficult job to connect the dots and find her.

The court date was set and Davina was waiting for the fate to come and get her in a caged pit in the middle of the town square. When the morning came and the guards opened the pit and ordered her to climb out, she obeyed and let them drag her through the square to the town hall, where the trial took place.

Everyone knew how the court would end. And she knew it, too. The town people were allowed inside and they were shouting insults and accusations and the jury did not even try to stop them. The sentence was straightforward, “Davina Fair, you have been accused of witchcraft! The jury sentences you to death by drowning!”

She did not even twitch. And besides, there was no point in living. Kill me, for what it´s worth, I don´t care. She only had one last wish; to wear her simple old white linen gown with a flower crown and greet the death as a long-awaited friend.

They dragged her to cellar under the town hall. Behind a heavy door, there was a thick wooden casket waiting for her. They chained her hands to her chest so she could not move a single finger. They put her in the casket and covered it with the lid and...

Darkness. Nothing but a black, eye-hurting darkness.
