The lipstick diaries Pt. One: the REDS

"Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kickass red lipstick."
                                                                                          GwynethPaltrow

The blonde beauty guru knows what she’s talking about, no doubt about it. And I couldn’t agree more. It took a long time for me to feel good with my own self, to be comfortable with how I look. And maybe that’s why I love make up. Not as a means to transform myself completely, but more so as a way to enhance the features I like. And I like my lips, to be quite honest, they are not big, but not small either; they are somewhere in between. For a long time I wasn’t brave enough to pull off a bold colour, I always stuck with nudes because it felt safe. And after a while, safe slowly turned into boring. That’s when I discovered the beauty of a red lipstick. And today, I decided to share some of my favourites with you.
Astor Soft Sensation Lipcolor Butter Matte in 025 Cheeky Girl
I decided to start with the Astor one because it screams summer. It has a buttery consistence, glides on your lips, has a mate finish and what’s more, the colour is stunning: an unclassifiable shade of red. Not a neon, not an orange, just amazing for summer.

Manhattan X-treme Last & Shine in 45M
This one reminds me of the German town I studied in; I put it on when I went to pick up my diploma (and unceremoniously so). But other than the memories, I like it because of its shiny finish and the blue undertone it has; it makes your teeth whiter, which is magic.

NYX Jumbo Lip Pencil in 712 Plush Red
The shade of this jumbo pencil is almost identical to the Manhattan one, however, it is way richer when it comes to the opacity. I almost never wear it as strongly as you can see it in the picture, that’s just for the swatche’s sake. I usually dab it on and smudge the edges with my finger for a much more softer look.

Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in 107
This one is not your typical red. It’s almost vamp, perfect for those cloudy, stormy summer days (who am I kidding, it’s my favourite and I wear it whenever the beep I want to). It definitely has some red to it, but I wouldn’t call it a pure red: It’s much darker, almost burgundy and I know for a fact that it’s not  only me who thinks it’s iconic. Apart from the celebrities, it can be easily found in almost all of my friend’s make up bags.

Rimmel Lasting finish by Kate moss in 01
When talking about iconic, I couldn’t just skip the first ever Rimmel lipstick Kate Moss created. It was designed to remind us of the old times; it’s the kind of red Marilyn Monroe or Grace Kelly would rock most of the time. I must admit, I only use it for special occasions because you need a certain style or a perfectly elegant outfit to pair it to. When combined, it’s a match made in heaven; not to mention the amazing smell all the Kate lipsticks have!

Isa Dora Perfect Moisture Lip in 53 Autumn Red
This was my first ever red lipstick so it rightly stands at this honorary place. I chose it because out of all the red options, this one seemed the safest option at the time. When dabbed into the lips, it can look soft and subtle; and that’s how I started with wearing red. It has a  slight goldy-metallic sheen to it, which perfectly explains the name “Autumn Red”. When the leaves start to turn colourful and the sun illuminates the sky, the Isa Dora red is the most perfect option.

So there you have it, my selection of all the perfect red lipsticks; suitable for all lip shapes, eye colours and skin tones. Enjoy!
Until next time,
Čauko, Lenka :-)

Oh, and PS: this is the first blog post written on my new Huawei MediaPad T3 10. It keeps surprising me about how great it actually is! Worth a try imho!
