Spring reading list

Hello and welcome to another episode of the „what is the biggest bookworm ever reading this season“ series. The spring is getting closer (bit slower than we would normally want) and my bookpile is growing with every passing month. Not that the change of the season has any influence on the genre of my choice, but I think it´s quite nice to sum it all up and leave some cheeky little recommendations for those who care.

So let´s start with the genre that is very close to my heart. Yes, you´ve guessed it, it´s fantasy. You may or may not know about the website called Pottermore, that was originally created by non other than J.K. Rowling herself to share some deeper insights into the world of wizardry that she created and to bring her beloved potterheads together under one cyber roof. Today, the website includes not only writings by our mama Witch, but also many back stories of some of the most favourite characters and important events connected to the world of Harry Potter.  This is where I discovered the three little ebooks called Short Stories from Hogwarts. The first ebook Of Power, Politics and Pesky Poltergeists contains short stories written by Rowling herself plus some exclusive additions that haven´t been posted anywhere before. Apart from revealing the inspiration and details about numerous characters, readers also get a glimpse into the darker side of the wolrd of wizardry;for example what stood behind Professor Umbridge´s inhumanly rude behaviour or how Professor Slughorn got to know young Tom Riddle during his years as the Potions master at Hogwarts. The second part Of Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies concentrate on two of the most loved characters; Minerva McGonagall and Remus Lupin. Aside from those to, you also get a glimpse into the mysterious life of Sybil Trelawney and Sylvanus Kettleburn, a notorious beasts-lover.  I know. It doesn´t sound like the good old HP canon but trust me, once you start reading, you realise that the stories of our beloved wizarding school never left. They are always there, waiting for us. We just need to know where to look for them.

Sometimes, a little bit of romance is just what you need. Even if it´s just reading about it. With the mixed-up situation I am in right now, it´s nice to just shut your brain down and stop thinking about your own life and just read about the love affairs and obstacles of a fictional character. That´s why the Walking Disaster by Jamie McGuire is just what I needed in my life. When I say it´s a romance, I mean a rough romance. The protagonist, Travis „Mad Dog“ Maddox is an underground fighter that has a reputation of having a way with girls; a different girl every night. Well, that is only until he meets Abby. She refuses to take his advances into consideration and offers him friendship only. However, Travis is determined tofight his way to her heart. Will he be successful? Well, that´s on you to find out.

Last but not least, a good old autobiography comes in handy during those rainy spring evenings. I picked up this one last year in October while waiting for my flight from Edinburgh to Vienna. Let me tell you, I almost missed my flight because I was so into it, I stopped paying attention to the world around me. However, I never came back to it at home. Last week I decided to start again and it felt amazing!  Reveal, penned by Chris Heath is Robbie´s personal account of fame, fortune, family and all things music. It simply offers you an insight into the life of one of the most loved pop stars; it paints a portrait of the man as you´ve never seen him before.

Well, what can I say? The pile is growing uncontrollably, I have no more space on my shelves for more books, but how can I stop? It´s a never-ending circle of buying a new one, reading it all in one night, adding it to my pile and buying another one. I guess I will be the crazy book lady when I am older. Well, who cares? I definitely don´t and that´s settled.

Until next time,
Čauko, Lenka 😊
