A lazy person´s guide to a perfect day at home

Imagine you just woke up, pushed the curtains away and stared out of your window…. into a chilly, damp and rainy day. Or actually, think about a lazy weekend when you feel like you are glued to the bed and nothing could make you get up and be productive. Let me get this straight; I am sure everyone has those days from time to time when you just don´t have the energy to function properly and be a normal human being, whatever the reason may be. Trust me, I have those more than I should.

And that is why I developed a perfect lazy person guide to a cosy day without having to step out of the flat  and encounter other human beings when you feel like any kind of interaction is out of the question. These are my useful (if I do say so myself) steps on how to make your lazy day super pleasant and enjoyable.

Cook your favourite comfort food.
… or order it online. Whatever the case may be, do it, this is the perfect day for a little cheeky treat. In my case, I feel like Italian food is my go-to. The thing is, I don´t like take-outs (except for a good greasy pizza in a paper box from time to time), so I usually prepare it myself. Recently, I have discovered a one-pot pasta miracle. Basically, you throw everything you need for a perfect pasta dish into a larger pan and cook it together. Okay, okay, don´t hate me, you Italian food-loving creatures out there. I still love the delicious original way of preparing Italian pasta meals, but this day is all about laziness, comfort and feeling good at home. And that´s what the one-pot pasta does for me. It´s easy, quick, tastes amazing and takes ten minutes to prepare.

Eat your food while watching TV.
So what? No one cares if your living room table looks like hot mess after you finished eating. It´s your lazy day, you´ve worked hard enough to deserve a day of being messy. I definitely like to take my meals in front of the TV, put on some series or new-found movies and enjoy my private cinema screening. And I don´t mind the empty plate sitting on my desk long after the movie´s closing credits rolled away. I can always clean it up later.

Get creative.
I´ve always liked art classes during my school years. Creating something new was an exciting opportunity to not only clear my head in between other (and more difficult) classes but also a way of expressing myself. Even today, I still like to retrieve my giocondas or watercolours and paint something on a piece of paper… or on the wall. Yes, I did that many times. And my dad hated me for it when I decided that I wanted to paint my room lavender. And guess what? I did it again. But this time I decided to think it through, make stencils and do it properly. And it´s still there, years later.
If you´re not an artsy person, that´s okay. There are other ways to get creative, for example re-arranging the furniture in your flat, look online for new homeware ideas or just re-plant your plants. Whatever gives your soul wings, as they say…

Give yourself a pampering session.
How long it is since you´ve last put a face mask on your face? Or maybe you want to repaint your nail polish but you haven´t got the chance to do it… well let me tell you, this is the right time. I love make-up and watching other people put makeup on their faces. You know, YouTube tutorials are the thing right now. I don´t know why, but I find it kinda therapeutic and sometimes when I am feeling myself, I do my makeup just the way the nice lady is doing hers on my screen. So what if I am not going anywhere and roam the flat in my pyjamas with a full face of makeup? It makes me happy, so I do it.
Pampering doesn´t necessarily have to be about beauty. Pampering your soul is equally important. How to do it, you ask? Simple, you just have to find a way to turn off your busy mind. Sometimes I find yoga to be just what I need. Who cares if I do it properly? I don´t. The only thing I care about is that concentrating on doing all those pretzel shapes with my body takes my thoughts away from everyday problems and stuff that I have to solve eventually. But not today, today is my lazy day..

There are, of course other ways of making yourself feel better during the stay-in time; for example, reading your favourite book or having a slumber party with your friends. Those mentioned above are just my current favourites. And I feel like sharing them might help somebody out there to stop feeling crappy about a day (or two) off. Everyone needs them. The world behind your window will still be there tomorrow, so no need to rush J

Until next time,
čauko, Lenka.
